Voter Participation

In 1971, the 26th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted 18-year-olds the right to vote. At that time, approximately half of 18-to 24-year-old voters voted in presidential elections. Since that time, participation of that population of voters has declined to 32 percent in 2000. Other voter populations have dropped, as well. According to the Anchorage Daily News, only 27.5% of registered Alaskans voted in the August 24, 2010, primary elections. Spend time exploring the resources on this web site and other resources so that you are well-prepared when you enter the polling booth.
