The Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarship (OURS) is devoted to undergraduate accomplishment through inquiry, discovery and creativity across all disciplines and within a global community of scholars. Fostering inspired teaching and engaged student learning, OURS advances the involvement of UAA students in research and creative activities—whether they be independent or with UAA faculty. OURS supports a wide variety of opportunities, including nine campus-wide award programs and the University Honors Program.

These grants fund significant undergraduate biomedical research projects under the guidance of a faculty mentor. Each grant supports up to $5,000 in project costs, tuition for up to 6 credits of HNRS 498 (Individual Research) and a $1,500 student stipend upon completion of the project. Alaskan high school student wins top award at national conference for UAA-based medical research
This summer, eight Alaskan high school students successfully completed biomedical research projects at UAA as part of the National High School Student Summer Research Apprentice Program, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) - National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases. Three of the students won prestigious awards, including the premier award, at the program's national conference in Washington DC. These students lived on the UAA campus for six weeks while they completed their projects with mentors from a wide range of UAA Departments.
