Faculty Exemplar Awards

In 2007, the annual Faculty Exemplar Awards were established by University Honors College Dean, Ronald Spatz, in consultation with the Undergraduate Research Task Force and the University Honors Council. These awards recognize faculty members who have demonstrated long-term and consistent exemplary mentoring of undergraduate research and creative projects. These faculty members have an excellent record of mentoring students one-on-one outside of the traditional classroom setting.  Their contributions to student success are hallmarks of inspired teaching and active learning.

The Faculty Exemplar Award Committee meets in March of each academic year to consider the nominations. Nominations received by Friday Febuary 17, 2012 will be considered for this year's award.  Only faculty members may submit nominations. Please complete the short electronic nomination form

Nominees will be asked to complete an information form by Wednesday, March 7, that includes:

  1. An overview of the nominee's mentoring activities in general (maximum 500 words).
  2. Number of students mentored at UAA on an individual basis outside of a classroom setting.
  3. Details on the research or creative projects of up to five students mentored that includes outcomes/products (maximum 200 words each).
  4. A letter of support from a student mentored by the nominee.

Nominee forms will be reviewed by a faculty committee in March. The committee will submit a short list of names to the University Honors College Dean who will select the winner.

The Faculty Exemplar Awards are presented at the Undergraduate Research Symposium in April of each year.
