Once you've completed the FAFSA, a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be sent to you by the U.S. Department of Education. If you have listed our school code (011462), we will also receive an electronic copy. A valid SAR must be on file with UAA in order to process your loan applications.
If you are selected for Verification, you are required to complete a Verification Worksheet and other financial forms before aid can be processed or disbursed. Make sure you turn in ALL the required forms, if you don't it will cause processing delays. Step 3 Review your financial aid award letter

After we receive the electronic copy of your FAFSA, within a few weeks you will receive an Award Letter in the mail. Along with your Award Letter you will find a copy of the Award Conditions. READ through each carefully as it there is important information about your financial aid, processes and requirements.
Please note: returning students will receive their award letter via UAonline.

Step 4 Complete online Loan Entrance Counseling

If you intend to take out a Federal Stafford Loans, first time borrowers and new students must complete Loan Entrance Counseling. Please be aware, if not completed this will delay your Stafford Loan disbursements.

Step 5 Accept or decline financial aid awards

Follow the instructions on how to logon to UAonline (on your Award Letter or the link below). Decide whether you will accept the full amount, partial amounts or none of Federal and/or State loans offered to you.
This step must be completed or loan requests will not be processed. If you qualify for the Pell Grant or other scholarships or grant they will automatically be accepted for you as they are free money! Detailed instructions.

Step 6 Complete and submit the Financial Aid Authorization Form

This form also contains the Wolfcard authorization that allows you to put money received from your financial aid disbursement directly onto your Wolfcard. You may use your Wolfcard to purchase your books at the bookstore etc. For more information contact the Wolfcard office.

Step 7 Select a lender if you are accepting loans

The Financial Aid web page has a List of Lenders that other students have used, or you may choose a lender of your choice.
Complete an electronic Application/Master Promissory Note for each type of Loan Program (one for the Stafford loans, one for the PLUS, etc.). DO NOT do multiple applications with multiple lenders. It will not get you more money, and we will not be able to tell who you want for a lender.
A promissory note is usually good for 10 years, so you don't have to do one next year, unless you choose to change lenders or loan program, or attend a different university. The exception is if you have an Alternative Loan and you needed a co-signer. Check with your lender to be sure.

Step 8 Apply for a Stafford Loan

If you need additional funds and have exhausted all other options, you may want to consider an Alternative Loan.
Compare lenders and then follow the instructions on the lenders website for completing the Application.
The Alaska Supplement Loan is an example of an Alternative Loan.
If you would like to use another lender for your Alternative Loan. Please fill out a Revision Request form and return it to the Financial Aid office. In the student comment section please give the name of the lender, the amount of the loan, etc.

Step 10 Apply for a Parent PLUS loan

Only undergraduate, dependent students are eligible.
Generally if you are eligible for one you will be offered one. Refer to FAFSA web site for student dependency.
This loan is taken out by the student's parents on behalf of the student.

Step 11 Monitor your financial aid status

You are responsible to monitor your status. Check your admission and financial aid status on UAonline frequently.
Check for notifications on your UAA student email account. After your award letter is mailed to you communications regarding your financial aid will come via your UAonline account and your UAA email account.
Federal regulations require all student loan borrowers to participate in exit loan counseling whenever you drop below half-time enrollment status, withdraw, or graduate.
