Summer Step-Up

The Summer Step-Up program is a 5 week college preparatory learning community designed to help students build a solid foundation in reading, writing, and academic success skills. This 9-credit block of courses is taught from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Thursday during the second half of the Summer semester.

Acceptance into the Summer Step-Up Program requires UAA-approved placement test scores.

Smart Start Smart Start

The Smart Start program is a semester-long college preparatory learning community  designed to help students build a solid foundation in reading, writing, grammar, math and academic success skills. This 13-credit block of courses is taught from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm Monday through Friday during the Fall and Spring semesters.

Acceptance into the Smart Start Program requires UAA-approved placement test scores      and an advising interview.

Computer Assisted Writing Lab
Learning Labs

Math Lab

The Math Lab, located in Sally Monserud Hall (SMH) 120, is available for one-on-one tutoring and math testing for MATH A054, A055, and A105 courses taught by CPDS faculty.

Math Lab Hours

During the Fall and Spring Semesters:

Monday - Thursday 9am - 9pm
Friday 9am – 6pm
Saturday 10am - 5pm
Sunday 12pm - 5pm

During the Summer Semester:

Monday - Thursday 11:30am - 9pm
Friday 9am - 2pm
Saturday 10am - 2pm

Computer Assisted Writing Lab (CAWL)

The Computer Assisted Writing Lab located in Sally Monserud Hall (SMH) 120, provides tutorial services in basic writing and in word processing.

CAWL Hours

During the Fall and Spring Semesters:

Monday - Thursday 9am - 9pm
Friday 9am – 6pm
Saturday 10am - 5pm
Sunday 12pm - 5pm

During the Summer Semester:

Monday - Thursday 11:30am - 9pm
Friday 9am - 2pm
Saturday 10am - 2pm

Workshops

Writing Workshops

These workshops review basic grammar, usage, and punctuation for academic and business writing.

Math Workshops

Various math workshops are offered free of charge throughout the semester. For more information or a copy of the current offerings please e-mail Megan Ossiander ( anmao@uaa.alaska.edu) or call her at 786-6159. These workshops reinforce concepts learned in Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra.

Finals Review Workshop

This workshop prepares students for their final exams in Pre-Algebra, Introductory Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra.

Calculator Workshop

This workshop teaches students to get maximum use from graphic calculators that are utilized in math courses.
