The Pharmacy Technology Occupational Endorsement Program consists of six courses. Courses are offered every Fall and Spring Semester on a rotating basis.
PHAR A101: Introduction to Pharmacy
Pharmacy, Pharmacists and the Role of Pharmacy Technicians: Learn about different pharmacy settings and the roles that pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play in each unique setting. Learn about the history of pharmacy and the evolution of the laws and regulations that guide the practice of pharmacy. Learn about how to prepare for a job and how to ready yourself for employment.
Delving into Medical Terminology: Learn the common language shared by all medical professions. Learn the special abbreviations, symbols and terms used to describe the different body organs, medications, dosage formulas and treatments.
Inventory Control, Financial Considerations and the Ethics of Pharmacy Practice: Learn how pharmacies maintain control of their medication stock. Learn how to bill insurance companies. Learn about the code of ethics that all pharmacy personnel must adhere to.
PHAR A105: Pharmacology for Technicians I
Nervous, Skeletal, Respiratory, Gastrointestinal, Urinary, and Cardiovascular System Drugs: Study of therapeutic agents, their classification, properties, actions, and effects on the human body and their role in the management of disease. Learn detailed information regarding drug dosages, side effects, interactions, toxicities, and incompatibilities.
Pharmacodynamics and Pharmacokinetics: Study of the manifestation of drug effects including the mechanism of action, onset of action, therapeutic effect, adverse drug events and termination of drug activity. Study of what happens to a drug after it enters the body.
Recombinant Drugs, Chemotherapy and Nutrition: Study of therapeutic agents, their classification, properties, actions, and effects on the human body and their role in the management of disease. Learn detailed information regarding drug dosages, side effects, interactions, toxicities, and incompatibilities.

PHAR A107: Pharmacy Calculations
The Basics: Learn the basic concepts needed to conquer the more advanced pharmacy calculation concepts. Learn to manipulate decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, and fractions. Learn to use roman numerals, the metric system, the avoirdupois system, and the apothecary system.
Units and Measurements for Calculating Drug Dosages: Learn to convert between different measurements systems. Learn to use algebraic equations to calculate oral dosages, parenteral dosages and doses measured in units.
Calculation of Drug Dosages: Learn to calculate oral and parenteral dosages. Learn to calculate intravenous flow rates. Learn to calculate pediatric and elderly doses.
PHAR A111: Techniques of Pharmacy
Pharmacy Practice in the Retail Setting: Learn about purchasing, receiving, billing and inventory control. Learn about personal service in the pharmacy workplace.
Pharmacy Practice in the Hospital Setting: Learn about purchasing, receiving, billing and inventory control. Learn about drug carts and prefills.
Preparation of Sterile and Non-Sterile Products: Learn about aseptic techniques. Learn to prepare IV fluid labels, parenteral equipment and techniques for preparation. Learn about handling cytotoxic materials and medications.
PHAR A115: Pharmacology for Technicians II
Pain, Reproductive System, Immune, Eyes, Ear, Nose and Throat and Dermatologic Drugs: Study of therapeutic agents, their classification, properties, actions, and effects on the human body and their role in the management of disease. Learn detailed information regarding drug dosages, side effects, interactions, toxicities, and incompatibilities.
PHAR A192: Topics in Pharmacy
This is a seminar-style course where healht care professionals from around the state will present topics that are important to pharmacy technicians. The course uses discussion format enhanced by speakers, role-playing, problem solving, case studies, and current news articles in pharmacy to keep pharmacy technicians and students current in the field. The course emphasizes ethical principles in relation to technical applications.
