What is the difference between commencement, the hooding ceremony and graduation?

"Commencement" is a ceremony marking a milestone in your academic career. You will wear traditional regalia, receive a diploma cover symbolizing your degree, and have the opportunity to celebrate your achievements with friends, family and the UAA community. An R.S.V.P. for commencement is required and will be available on this Web site in February 2012.

The "hooding ceremony" is a special ceremony for graduate students receiving their graduate hoods. This ceremony is separate from the main commencement ceremony.

"Graduation" means finishing all of your degree requirements, applying for and receiving your diploma. For information on applying for graduation, and the steps to receiving your degree, visit the UAA Registrar's Web site.

DVDs and Photos of UAA's 2011 Commencement
DVDs
DVDs of the Commencement and the Hooding Ceremony will be available after May 14 through UAA’s Distance Education Office. Phone (907) 786-4646 option 3. Cost is $10.
Photographs
Proofs of the photographs taken during the Hooding and Commencement Ceremonies will be emailed after May 17 to the address you provided on your reader card. Once you receive and review the proofs, you may place orders. If you have questions or don’t receive the proofs, please contact the photographer at 229-0700
