This garden demonstrates the environmental benefits of keeping hens in back gardens and highlights the health advantages of fresh produce, as well as the hens’ capacity to recycle kitchen scraps, cutting down waste and producing garden compost, and also their pest-control qualities.

There is a wooden coop at one end for chickens to lay eggs. A tree by this hut provides shade and buddleia is planted to complement the biodiversity of the garden. Strong fragrance planting such as lavender, lemon-scented geraniums, peppermint, chives and basil deter chickens from roaming and to keep them safe.
