Tatton’s Victorian Summer Garden Party
Taaton park As part of Tatton Park’s celebration of Italy’s influence on the estate, visitors are cordially invited to join Wilbraham Egerton, 2nd Baron and later Earl Egerton of Tatton, and his wife Lady Mary, to celebrate the completion of the Italian Garden. Commissioned and completed in the late 1890s, Joseph Paxton’s Italian Garden design includes inspiration from the continental travels of the Egertons.
This special summer garden party includes the opportunity to engage in social discourse with Victorian lords and ladies, and partake in a gentle game of croquet on the newly-laid croquet lawn. Fresh lemonade is being served in the shady summer house. To complement the occasion, Italian seed company Franchi (established 1783) is offering visitors the chance to take home and grow a variety of their top quality range of seeds.
Tatton Park is one of the North West's most popular heritage attractions. Over 750,000 visits are made each year to the 1,000 acres of deer park, the Mansion, gardens, Old Hall, rare breeds farm and other events. Tatton Park dates back to the Bronze Age, and has been home to herds of deer since the 13th century. The estate was acquired by the Egerton family in the late Tudor period, and bequeathed to the National Trust in 1958. Cheshire County Council manages the property on behalf of the National Trust.
