“In one sense, all we do is connect people.” (The Anthony NolanTrust)
In the Where Paths Cross garden, six interconnecting paths symbolise the bringing together of people and information. Points of entry and intersection are emphasised with light. At the hub of the garden, there is an area of calm for contemplation - a curved lawn and seat backed by a protecting wall.
The Anthony Nolan Trust takes back lives from leukaemia by managing, and recruiting new donors to, the UK’s most successful bone marrow register. It categorises and connects donors with patients, bringing order out of chaos. This idea is reflected in the planting of the beds on the left and right hand sides of the garden, which utilise exactly the same number and type of plants, but with different planting styles. The planting on one side is informal, while the planting on the other side is laid out in ordered blocks.
The garden is designed for year-round interest. The flowering beds, at their best during July, are framed by a structure of white-stemmed birches underplanted with spring-flowering evergreens.
