Douglas Veltre's primary research interests are in the history and culture of the Aleut (Unangan) people, and he has conducted archaeological and ethno-historical research in the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands since 1971. He has served as President of the Alaska Anthropological Association and as a member of its Board of Directors. Professor Veltre, a past Chair of the Anthropology Department, has been at UAA since 1974.

Archaeology, ethnology, physical anthropology, and related disciplines are represented, with emphasis on: studies of specific cultures of the arctic.  This issue features Dr. Douglas Veltre, Dr. David Yesner, and Dr. William Workman from UAA's Anthropology Department.
