Reference librarians at Kemp Library serve as information guides and research consultants who assist library patrons in learning to use the resources of the library and provide assistance in locating information and resources that satisfy their academic and intellectual needs. They aim to treat all patrons with courtesy and respect and to have all information requests addressed in a professional manner. In alignment with the teaching mission of East Stroudsburg University, Reference librarians endeavor to transform reference interactions with students into successful teaching-learning encounters, with the goal of assisting students in their quest to locate and retrieve information effectively and to use the acquired information ethically and legally. The department adheres to the Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) of the American Library Association’s Guidelines for Information Services.
The Reference Desk is usually staffed by a professional librarian. Some reference inquiries can also be answered by phone (570-422-3594).
