The Office of Planning and Advancement deals with a wide range of functions, focusing primarily on relationships between New River Community College (NRCC) and the various publics it serves. Areas of responsibility include strategic planning, the NRCC Educational Foundation, alumni relations, public information, grant proposal development and administration, marketing, publications, government relations and related areas.

The Office plays a major role in communicating the institution's capabilities for serving the New River Valley and the Commonwealth of Virginia. It also assists in maintaining relationships with donors, alumni, government representatives and the news media, as well as students, potential students, faculty, staff and friends of the college.
