Other unrestricted funds and endowments would provide significant support in key areas. A $5 million gift to name the chair of the University Librarian would provide an unrestricted endowment to fund innovation and help meet pressing needs; a gift of $5 million to name the Scholars’ Lab, a state-of-the-art service area in Alderman Library would create an endowment to support the Lab’s innovative support of research and teaching. Additionally, a gift of $3 million to name the main exhibit gallery in the Harrison Institute would provide income to mount major exhibits of special collections in this increasingly popular public space. The auditorium in this building also could be named for $3 million, and the support of the Staff Development Endowment will allow the Library to recruit, train, and retain the best staff, ensuring continuing leadership.
