The 2008 Flannery O'Connor Conference

The Stories of Flannery and Faulkner

April 2-5, 2008

Tentative Schedule § Registration § Lodging & Directions

ALL INFORMATION TENTATIVE

Lodging

There is a tentative plan for shuttle buses to transport conference participants between campus and the first three motels listed here. Anyone attending the conference without a car is advised to stay in one of these three motels. All the motels are on N. Columbia, aka Highway 441 to Eatonton. In order to receive the room rates listed here, conference participants should say that they are attending the Flannery O'Connor conference at Georgia College & State University. These motels have some non-smoking rooms and all offer continental breakfasts, but participants should ask the motels for details about particular needs. These rates should be available from throughout the Conference, and perhaps, before and after. Rates listed here do not include tax and are subject to change.

Holiday Inn Express
1839 N. Columbia (closest to campus)
(478) 454-9000
$95 single (king) or double (two queens)
Hampton Inn
2461 N. Columbia
(478) 451-0050

Comfort Suites (formerly Best Western)

Here are two more acceptable motels for participants who are able to bring cars to the conference.

Best Stay Inn (formerly Comfort Inn)
2595 N. Columbia
(478) 452-9290
$51.99 single (king or queen) or $51.99 double (two queens). Pets welcome. $10 flat pet fee per stay.

$55 single (king) or double (two doubles) NOTE: This is the only motel that accepts pets -$10 charge each day.

Directions

Visit GCSU's Interactive Campus Map for a virtual tour of the university and information about campus locales. Directions to campus may be found on the GCSU Directions page.

Parking (tentative)

Participants who bring cars to the GCSU campus may park in the N. Irwin St. Parking Lot, which is located at the corner of W. Hancock and N. Irwin, approx. four tenths of a mile west of campus. Conference participants will be issued a Visitor Parking Pass when registration is acknowledged via e-mail. Participants may ride a shuttle bus to campus from the N. Irwin St. Parking Lot, or they may walk east on W. McIntosh or on W. Hancock. The walk takes about 10 minutes.

At the Registration area in Chappell Hall, those registered for the conference may pick up Visitor Parking Passes. If you put the Visitor Parking Pass in the dashboard of your car, you may park in any lot around campus (except for some clearly marked for the handicapped or those reserved for specific individuals). There are several parking lots north of campus between Clarke and Wilkinson, and there is a large parking lot by the Centennial Center in the southwest part of campus, with an entrance at the corner of Clarke and Washington.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, unless you arrive on campus very early, your best bet for parking will still be the Irwin St. parking lot.

Shuttle (tentative)

Shuttle buses will run on a 30-minute loop from Comfort Suites, Hampton Inn, and Holiday Inn Express to the GCSU campus. Here are the hours of operation of the motel shuttle buses:

Wed, April 2 - 8:00 am to 10:30 pm
Th, April 3 - 8:00 am to 10:30 pm
Fri, April 4 - 8:00 am to 10:30 pm
Sat, April 5 - 8:00 am to 10:30 pm

Buses should depart from each motel twice each morning in time for the first session. It takes a shuttle bus about 20 minutes to complete the loop.

Shuttles will also circulate to transport conference registrants to Andalusia on Thursday, April 3, for the 3:45-6 pm reception--from campus and from the motels.

Shuttle buses will stop on the GCSU campus in front of Chappell Hall and at the Montgomery St. shuttle stop near the Arts and Sciences Building.

Conference registrants with special needs may contact the shuttle bus dispatcher at 445-4400. Transportation Services Coordinator Darryl Richardson may be contacted at 445-7433 or at darryl.richardson@gcsu.edu
