Lehman College invites the community to take part in a new program at the College that will bring New York State’s fresh seasonal produce to the campus for sale. The Summer Farm Share will begin at Lehman on June 12, providing fruits and vegetables at a reduced price. Farmers from Corbin Hill Farm will visit the Concert Hall Plaza, near Gate 10 on Paul Avenue, every Tuesday from 2 – 5 p.m. through mid-November to sell their most recent harvest.

York College/CUNY will host its 42nd Commencement Exercises on June 1, 2012. At 1,003 strong, the Class of 2012 is York’s largest graduating class to date.
The valedictorian, Chemistry major, Tony Wan, served two tours of duty in Iraq as a member of the U.S. Marine Corp, reaching the rank of Corporal. There will also be at least seven other veterans graduating that day from York with him.

Few people truly understood how hard it was for Titanya Charles to get out of bed and get to school every Monday and Wednesday, catching the Access-a-Ride from her home in East New York to campus and making her way to the third floor of James Hall, where, as a sociology major, she took most of her classes.

John Jay College of Criminal Justice will host the Tenth Biennial International Conference, “ Global Perspectives on Justice and Security and Human Rights,” in New York City from June 6– 9, 2012. Prominent scholars, government officials, practitioners and justice advocates from 25 countries including Australia, Brazil, China, Israel, India, Japan, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, South Africa, Spain, The Netherlands, Ukraine and the United States will join John Jay College faculty and students to present and discuss the latest research on various criminal justice and human rights-related topics.

Faculty and student excellence at Queens College has been recognized with prestigious Fulbright grants awarded to professors Nathalis Guy Wamba and Andrea Khalil, and student Erica Leong. Wamba, an African native, will return home to make contributions at two schools as a scholar and researcher, while Andrea Khalil will head to North Africa to study societal changes in the wake of the Arab Spring. Erica Leong, a Chinese American student graduating with honors this month, will immerse herself in South Korean culture as she teaches English in that country.

A reception was held May 24 in the elegant glass and steel Kupferberg Holocaust Resource Center to recognize Michael Resnick, President of Sinai Chapels, for his selfless dedication in supporting Holocaust Education.

Many college students spend spring break relaxing on one of Florida’s famous beaches, soaking up the sun while preparing themselves for the late semester push that can make or break so many college undergrads.

However, some spend the break presenting at scientific conferences, as was the case with 38 CSI students who attended the 18th International Taurine Conference in Marrakech, Morocco.

The group of 38 students, consisting mostly of CSI undergraduates, included students in the C-STEP program and The Verrazano School.

In cooperation with the Sandy Ground Historical Society, College of Staten Island graduate student Debbie-Ann Paige has worked tirelessly over the past several years to document the presence of Underground Railroad way-stations on Staten Island. Specifically, she has examined the participation of Louis Napoleon, a “conductor” on the Underground Railroad and an important link in the long chain of abolitionists who assisted self-liberated slaves as they passed through Staten Island and New York on their way to Canada. Her research has resulted in Louis Napoleons’ house being named a national landmark.
