William Richards lost his sight at age 33, and 16 years later, in 2007 earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from BMCC. Fast forward another three years, and Richards is writing a book, Lost in Brooklyn, about his changing Williamsburg neighborhood—which, as a sight-impaired person, he sees from a new perspective.

As the strings, woodwinds and horns rose into a crescendo, one would have thought it was the opening gala of the New York Philharmonic. Instead, the resounding passage from Antonín DvoĆák’s New World Symphony was being played by about 50 fourth- and fifth-grade students from the Harmony Program at PS 152 who were warming up for their winter recital at Gershwin Theater.

Charlesworth (Charles) Mabheka is a strong presence on the BMCC campus. He’s gregarious, he’s enthusiastic, and he has a huge personality to match his huge heart.
Although he graduated from BMCC in 2008 with a degree in Business Administration, he’s still a part of the BMCC community, working as a tutor for the Learning Resource Center and College Discovery program.
