When Lisa Fraser worked for three years as a counselor to children at risk of being put in foster homes, she wished for better laws to protect the youngsters. Ms. Fraser will now find out how those laws are made as she becomes one of 27 City University of New York students who will spend the Spring semester in Albany as interns with the New York State Legislature. A June graduate of the Hunter College School of Social Work, she wants to work in the field of public policy and public welfare.

More than two hundred eighth grade students took part in a special rigorous English language immersion program this summer at New York City Technical College and LaGuardia Community College. The pilot program, a collaboration between The City University of New York and the Board of Education, was modeled on CUNY’s successful year-old pre-college Language Immersion program.

Natalya Koltunova, Catherine Okonji and Rhondalyn McClean are among eight top-ranking CUNY graduates who decided to become physicians after experiencing suffering and/or lack of health care in places as diverse as the Ukraine, Nigeria, and Harlem. They are among eight outstanding CUNY students who received prestigious Jonas E. Salk scholarships and seven who received honorary Salk Scholarships on June 9 to study medicine.
