Welcome to the Department of Psychology
Welcome to the Department of Psychology at the City College of New York, a department that trains leaders in the science and practice of psychology. The department offers undergraduate and Masters coursework needed to obtain New York State certification as an
Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor. We offer Masters degrees in
General Psychology and in
Mental Health Counseling. We house doctoral programs in
Clinical Psychology, a program honored for its training of minority students, and in
Cognitive Neuroscience, a program that trains students in the use of state-of-the-art techniques in brain imaging.
Fieldwork placement, independent study, and the
Honors Program provide students with opportunities to work closely with faculty on projects that examine social, cultural, clinical, cognitive, biological, developmental, and educational influences on behavior.
To better guide psychology majors through their academic experience, we offer a faculty advisement program called P.A.S.S. – the Psychology Advisement Support System. We sponsor two organizations for students studying psychology, The Psychology Student’s Association (PSA), known as the “Psych Club,” and Psi Chi, the National Honor Society of Psychology.
