To be considered for financial aid, you must first complete and submit the 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The FAFSA may be submitted online at www.fafsa.gov. The priority deadline for submitting the 2014/2015 FAFSA is April 1.
When you use the Internet to submit the FAFSA, you may obtain a PIN to use as your signature. To obtain a PIN visit www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN can also be used to make corrections and to renew your Financial Aid application.
Shortly after you submit the FAFSA you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education. If you provide an e-mail address on the FAFSA, the SAR will be sent to you electronically. If you don’t provide an e-mail address, the SAR will arrive in the mail. The SAR contains the information you provided on the FAFSA. After reviewing the information you can make corrections at www.fafsa.gov with your PIN.
Your SAR will also contain your expected family contribution (EFC), any additional information you need to provide to the federal government or the financial aid office, what you should do next in the financial aid application process and historical information regarding previous student loans.
New York State residents who complete the FAFSA online will be linked from the FAFSA confirmation page to an online application for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). After you have filed the TAP application, the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (NYSHESC) will send you a reply regarding your eligibility and the amount of your award.
