Fall exhibits & events @ the library

Fall exhibit There is a lot going on at Hamersly this fall! Through a partnership with the Wholistic Peace Institute, and support from the Office of the Dean of Liberal Arts and the College of Education, the Hamersly Exhibits program is bringing the Hiroshima Ground Zero: NEVER AGAIN! exhibit to campus. The exhibit is curated by the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum in Japan.

The library will be hosting events, exhibits, and speakers throughout fall term and you are invited! See a full schedule here.

New Spring Term Library Exhibits

Our Spring 2014 exhibits include:

May Day dancers Maple Hall: Celebrating 100 Years
Dedicated in 1914 as the first campus gymnasium, Maple Hall celebrates 100 years of service to the Western Oregon University campus. This exhibit features the many activities and people associated with Maple Hall. Through its evolution as a gymnasium, student recreation center, ROTC training, and dance studio, Maple Hall remains a place for active learning and a place to showcase creativity.

More about Spring Term Exhibits...

Herstory & History
Abstract images of woman abound in history, representing some of the most enduring human ideals – sovereignty, justice, nature itself. These images are juxtapose with history to see some to the ways in which image and reality interweave and influence the forming of gender rules and roles by successive generations.

New Fall Exhibits @ the Library

Hamersly Library cordially invites you to the fall 2013 exhibit reception, Wednesday, October 9th from 4:00p.m. – 6:00p.m.
The exhibits run Monday, September 23rd through December 13th, 2013 featuring:

Shadows SHADOWS~ Anna Daedalus and Kerry DavisShadows is suite of life-size photograms that evoke the shadows of victims vaporized by the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. To create the images, artists Anna Daedalus & Kerry Davis designed and built a custom photo booth where participants were invited to lend their shadows in commemoration. This body of work was developed with a 2013 Project Grant from the Regional Arts & Culture Council.

Oregon Archaeology Celebration Oregon Archaeology Celebration: A traveling exhibit of Oregon Archaeology month posters. Each October, Oregon Archaeology Celebration creates a poster to promote Oregon’s cultural past. The 18 posters which make up this exhibit feature the wonders of archaeology around Oregon. Each poster depicts a different aspect of Oregon archaeology, covering a range of topics including climate change, volunteers in archaeology, Fort Rock Cave, a coastal shell midden site, preservation of ship wrecks, technology through time, and the Oregon Trail.

Additional exhibits include: Homecoming2013: Evolution of Waldo Wolf in the 1st and 3rd floor lobbies, Current Faculty Publications in the 1st floor, and Japanese-American Relocation Center Newsletters in the 2nd floor Lobby

Event at the library this week: WOU Futures Past

Hamersly Library is sponsoring a unique (and really fun!) event as part of New Student Week. Come by the library Tuesday from 1-4pm, and Friday from 12-3pm to participate in WOU Futures Past: a fun, interactive library game that lets you experience the past and capture the future. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates about the event and pictures of all the activities!
