Need help? There’s a tutor for that.

Need help with math, writing, English as a foreign language, or using technology? There are drop-in tutoring services for all of these subjects right in the library:

–> The Math Center offers free math tutoring Monday-Friday at varying times in Room 228 for both Math classes and non-Math classes like statistics. See the Math Center website for spring term hours.
–> The Writing Center holds night hours Sunday-Thursday from 7:00-10:00pm in Room 116. Writing tutors will work with you on writing projects for any course and any instruction level.
–> The English Tutoring Center holds night hours Monday-Thursday from 7:00-10:00 pm in Room 228. Tutors can help international students with reading, listening to, and/or speaking English.
–> The Digital Media Center, located on the 2nd floor, offers help with technology-related class assignments. Email dmc@wou.edu for a tutoring appointment.

Campus Printing FAQ

How much does printing cost? A single page (one side) of a black & white printout costs 1 print credit. A single color page (one side) printout costs 5 print credits. Students receive 225 print credits per term.

How do I know how many print credits I have? Log in to the WOU Portal and your balance will be displayed on your homepage.

How do I buy more print credits? Purchase additional credits through WolfWeb under the Student Menu. They start at 50 credits for $2.50 and go up from there. When you buy additional credits they are immediately available for use.

What if I don’t use all of my print credits? Whatever credits you don’t use roll over to the next term. However, accounts are wiped clean before each Fall term begins, and everyone starts again with 225 print credits.

Digital Production Rooms Now Available for Booking

Want to create a video for a class assignment? Narrate a PowerPoint presentation? Record a screen capture using Camtasia? The library now has two digital production rooms available to all students, faculty, and staff.

To book these rooms (HL 221 & HL 222), contact the library Information Desk at libweb@wou.edu or 503-838-8418. First time users, please see DMC staff for an orientation to the equipment.

Which should I use? VDI or the Terminal Server?

Need to access your H drive from off campus? Need to use specialized programs such as SAS, SPSS, or Photoshop for a class assignment? You can access all these from almost any computer by using a virtual connection. There are two computing environments to connect to: VDI and the Terminal Server.

VDI has newer versions of the Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Some specialized software lives on VDI, while other software is only on the Terminal Server. Decide which option is best suited to your needs with this chart:

Stream music online with Classical Music Library

As a WOU student, faculty, or staff member, you have access to the streaming audio database Classical Music Library through the library.

Classical Music Library contains tens of thousands of licensed recordings from major music labels ranging from the earliest Gregorian chants to works by modern composers. Recordings include symphonic music, vocal and instrumental music, choral works, and other forms. You can even create and save individual playlists!

The Recreation Collection has moved

Looking for a book to read for fun? Check out the library’s Recreation Collection in its NEW temporary location on the short bookshelves between the computer banks on the 1st floor. The collection will live here during the construction of the new library cafe this winter.

As always, you can browse the Recreation Collection online, too. And if you’re just not sure what you want to read next, let us help! Fill out this short form and your WOU librarians will get back to you with a book or two you might like.

PURE Insights: Call for submissions

Students: submit your work to WOU’s peer-reviewed undergraduate research journal, PURE Insights.

The submission deadline is December 31, 2015.

Students and recent graduates are eligible to submit original research and creative work including technical papers, research articles, expository articles, poems, short stories, photographs, videos, and other creative works from all academic disciplines. All submissions to the journal must have a faculty sponsor. Learn more

Changes coming to the library!

WOU’s Dean of Library Services, Dr. Allen McKiel, emailed out the following announcement to campus on Monday about changes coming to Hamersly Library:

“There are exciting changes afoot at Hamersly Library. I am delighted to announce that over winter break, we will begin physical modifications to enhance the learning commons environment to better meet the needs of a twenty-first century campus. The addition of a first floor café will be the first tangible sign of these changes…” Read the Dean’s full announcement here.
