Canadian Fulbright Fellow presentation
Dr. Claudio Aporta, Canadian Fulbright Fellow will present "Trails and Their Role in the Construction of Inuit pan-Arctic Identities." The Inuit's experience in the Arctic is deeply rooted in a sense of homeland, ethnic identity, and the struggle to generate a sustainable livelihood. Dr. Aporta's lecture will explore this connection to the Arctic environment through an analysis of how Inuit, using traditional knowledge, have navigated trails from the Bering Strait to Greenland, developing a sense of pan-Arctic identity. Dr. Claudio Aporta, an associate professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University, conducts ethnographic research in Nunavut, Canada's Inuit territory. Dr. Aporta studies the relationship between Inuit and their physical environment and the transmission of oral geographic knowledge in historical and contemporary context.

2012 Oregon Rhetoric and Composition Conference
The 2012 Oregon Rhetoric and Composition Conference will bring together educators from high schools, community colleges, and four-year public and private colleges and universities to consider a range of practical and theoretical issues related to rhetoric and composition, language, and literacy. This year's theme is "Writing at Intersections." We encourage presentations that consider the way writing shapes the core of our professional lives, the way it helps us establish multi-layered and multi-faceted connectionswith high school students, with our college students, with other colleagues and other disciplines, with technology. In an ideal world, these connections would be smooth, seamless, and effective; in the real world, however, we face unexpected curriculum changes or difficult, unstable budgets that make such connections hard to establish and maintain.
