SCHUYLER ASMAN - Advisor

  • Year in School: Graduated
  • Major: Higher Ed
  • Why are you on the Green Team:
I came to WOU from PSU, which has a big sustainability initiative, I was also looking for a work place that values sustainability and the housing department here has that passing with me.
  • What does being Sustainable mean to you:
It’s about being smart and thinking ahead. It’s more than just recycling, it’s thinking about how your actions will affect the future.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:Sustainability is a huge part of my life. I integrate it into my life style, the decisions I make, the products I buy, and the activities I do.

ZOË ZELLERS

  • Year in school: Senior
  • Major: Communications
  • Why are you on theGreen Team:
I wanted some way to be on a bigger scale, more involved with on-campus recycling and green initiatives. I wanted to help.
  • What does sustainability mean to you:
Things as simple as turning off the lights or not letting the water run while brushing your teeth, but also on a larger scale like making multiple stops whin I go out - not driving back and forth to places. Plus reducing my carbon footprint.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I'm a vegetarian; I have been for all of my life. I recycle EVERYTHING I can and try to pre-cycle by not buying individually packaged items. I dont forget to turn off the lights.

ANNIKA BARNETT

  • Year in School: Sophmore
  • Major: Secondary Education, Focus in Social Studies
  • Why are you on theGreen Team:
I saw how green Western tries to be but a lack of awareness concerning how to use the resources that Weestern gives to students to recycle. I wanted to help promote the awareness of the recycling centers and more throughout campus.
  • What does being sustainable mean to you:
It means using less while doing more with what is given to me.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I strive to recycle and reuse and encourage others in my life to do the same.

KELLI MATSUO

  • Year in School: Freshman
  • Major: Undecided
  • Why are you on theGreen Team:
I noticed how eco-friendly Oregon in general really is. So I wanted to get involved and have an impact on our campus by recycling and bringing awareness to all student with green activities. .
  • What does being sustainable mean to you:
Being sustainable means putting in the effort to create a better environment. Not to overuse our materials and resources. Reuse, reduce recycle!
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I live the Green Dream by recycling and reusing my resources. I reuse my water bottle instead of constantly buying new plastic water bottles. I try to encourage others to recycle!

AMANDA VALDEZ

  • Year in School: Senior
  • Major: Communications
  • Why are you on the Green Team:
I joined the Green Team to contribute to the education and awareness of sustainability on-campus. I wanted to be a part of the impact we have on others about living a sustainable lifestyle.
  • What does being Sustainable mean to you:
Sustainabliity means utilizing resources, reducing waste, and being aware of what we consume in our day to day lives. It is a lifestyle that everyone can achieve.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I live the Green Dream everyday. From recycling waste, to buying reusable items. From saving money and sharing with everyone. I am conscious of the decisions I make and how they impact the environment.

ADRIANNE SCHNEIDER

  • Year in school: Senior
  • Major: Psychology
  • Why are you on the Green Team:
I joined the Green Team because I wanted to help educate people about sustainability. I believe that every effort helps improve the world we live in.
  • What does being sustainable mean to you:
Sustainability is a way of living. It means that over time, the individual efforts will help protect the environment. If every American recycled just 1/10 of their newspapers, we could save 25 million trees each year.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I live the Green Dream by educating people about sustainability. I enjoy recycling and using reusable cups and water bottles. I also love coming up with eco-friendly craft ideas.

TORI BROOKS

  • Year in School: Sophomore
  • Major: Pre-Nursing
  • Why are you on Green Team:
I am on the Green Team because I believe that it is of the upmost importance for us, as inhabitants of this planet, to educate each other about and be active participators in the aspects of sustainable living (like recycling and reusing our resources).
  • What does being Sustainable Mean to You:
Sustainability is a responsibility to consider all the repercussions on others and the environment of our actions. It seems to be a mentality of our present way of living to idolize and fixate on the obtaining the new and throwing away the old. Thus we value nothing. Sustainability is seeing the value in those objects or ideas and using them successfully.
  • How do you live the Green Dream:
I live the Green Dream by looking at life a little bit differently and differentiating my "needs" into necessities and luxuries. I tend not to buy brand new clothes and reconfigure what I already own. I take care of my belongings so I don't have to replace them and I support businesses (preferably local to where I am living) that encourage and support sustainable practices .
