Family and Graduate Housing

Housing Options for Families, Graduate and Non-Traditional Students

Originally set up to provide accommodations for Western Oregon University's students with families and married students, the "Family Housing" complex has expanded it's community to include domestic partners, graduate and non-traditional students as well as offering interim housing to WOU's incoming faculty and staff as space allows.

Because space within the Family Housing Complex is limited, priorty will be given to applicants based on the following criteria, in the order listed.

  • Students with dependent children or students with a spouse or domestic partner
  • Single Graduate or Non-traditional students
  • Incoming Staff or Faculty on a strictly interim basis

Please Note: All applicants must have a spouse or domestic partner and/or dependent children to apply for an apartment. "Dependent(s)" are defined as anyone meeting the dependent definitions as outlined in the Internal Revenue Code. All applicants (with the exception of incoming Staff or Faculty) must be a full time student (12 credit hours for undergrads, 9 for graduate students) at Western Oregon University prior to occupying a Family Housing Apartment.

If you would like to view a unit within the Aldverview Complex or the Knox Street Apartments during the work week, please contact an Apartment Manager during their Office Hours to set up an appointment.

The Apartments


The Knox Street Apartments are located on the northeast corner of campus, well within walking distance to all facilities on campus. There are 16 two-bedroom, one bath apartments located here in four groups of 4-plexes. A separate laundry facility is located within the complex.

The Knox Street apartments are unfurnished apartments and with exception of the kitchen and bathroom, are fully carpeted. A full kitchen includes a stove top/oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. For floorplans and images of the Knox Street Apartments, please use the link below.

The Alder View Townhouse Complex is located on the northwest corner of campus just off of Stadium Drive - #14 on the Residential Map. Situated in four buildings of four townhouses each, Alder View offers 40 units of town-house style apartments that are unfurnished. Each two bedroom and bath and a half unit features carpet and vinyl floor coverings, living room and separate dining room off the fully furnished kitchen. (Appliances include stove top/oven, refrigerator, dishwasher and a washer and dryer within the unit.)
