Private Scholarships

A number of private organizations offer scholarships and awards.  We encourage you to check with businesses, churches, and civic organizations.  The Financial Aid Office has also compiled a list of private scholarship information and resources for undergraduate and graduate students.

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society's scholarship program is designed to ease the financial and emotional hardships associated with fighting cancer and to assist young cancer survivors reach their academic potential and fulfill their career dreams.

Association of Firearm and Tool Mark Examiners Scholarship: Forensic Science

Students enrolled in a science degree program at an accredited university with the objective of a forensic science career can apply to receive a two thousand dollar ($2000) scholarship award.

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Deadline-  June 22, 2012

Amount of Award  - $500.00

Braintrack: Computer Science Degree Scholarship

Must be currently taking classes in an appropriate computer science or IT degree program with at least one semester of studies completed. Studies can be full-time, part-time, on-campus, or online and must be at an accredited US college.

CEO of Tomorrow Scholarship

Construction Financial Management Association Scholarship (Portland Chapter)

$2,000 to $3,000 scholarships will be awarded to Portland area students enrolled full-time in an accredited program and majoring in accounting or finance.

Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Sigma Chapter of Alpha Rho State (Oregon) Honorary Women Educators

Sigma Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is offering a grant-in-aid of $250 to $500 to a woman student from Crook, Deschutes, or Jefferson counties majoring in the field of education who has finished at least two years of college. Grand Chapter of Oregon, Order of the Eastern Star: Leslie Parker Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship available to female students that are residents of Oregon, who have completed at least 2 years of satisfactory college work (GRADUATE STUDENTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLY)

Hayek Fund for Scholars

Provides awards of up to $750 to graduate students and untenured faculty members for career-advancing activities. The award is open to graduate students who intend to pursue academic careers and untenured faculty members whose academic work contributes to the understanding of the principles, practices, and institutions necessary to a free society or to the understanding of the classical liberal or libertarian tradition. Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber

Since 1996, the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber has awarded more than $1,090,000 in scholarships.  Please visit their website at www.hmccoregon.com for more information.

Inkfarm.com's Digital Innovation Scholarship

For Any US High School Senior and College Students: Describe your personal experience with internet entrepreneurship or the importance of new ideas in the digital realm.

James W. Gallagher Scholarship

The James W. Gallagher scholarship is a $1000 scholarship given by the Western Oregon University Federation of Teachers (the faculty union) to WOU students who demonstrate understanding and awareness of the importance of labor unions and collective bargaining.

Latino Scholarship Opportunities

Western Oregon University's College of Education has developed a list of private scholarship opportunities available to Latino and minority students.  Students can access the list by clicking here.

OHSU School of Nursing Scholarship Program

All incoming and currently admitted OHSU Nursing students at Western Oregon University are eligible to apply.  Application deadline is February 15, 2011.  For more information regarding private scholarship opportunities for nursing students, please visit the OHSU School of Nursing Scholarships Page.

Oregon Community Foundation

Provides information on Oregon Community Foundation Scholarships administered through various Oregon schools.  Scholarship criteria and application locations are available here.  Please visit your school's appropriate office if they are listed as having a scholarship.  More information can be found at www.oregoncf.org.

Oregon Medical Education Foundation

Available to seniors or graduates from a Linn or Benton County high school seeking a career in medicine or nursing and are enrolled in an institution of higher learning with an undergraduate or graduate degree pursuit in medicine or nursing.

Oregon Native American Chamber Scholarship

The Oregon Native American Chamber (ONAC) is dedicated to working with all members of the community to advance the educational and economic opportunity for Native Americans in Oregon and Southwest Washington. ONAC promotes and supports the education, training and cultural understanding of Native Americans

Oregon Scotish Rite Education Foundation

For undergraduate study in an accredited college, university, or trade school at Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Level.

Pioneer District Garden Clubs, Inc

Applicants must be a legal resident of Columbia, Washington, or Yamhill Counties in Oregon, be enrolled as a full-time student in the sophomore, Junior or Senior year of college with a 3.25 GPA, and be enrolled in a major related to Horticulture, Floriculture, Landscape Design, Conservation, Forestry, Botany, Environmental Control, City Planning, or Land Management.

Salem Hospital Scholarships

Scholarships are granted by the Salem Hospital Auxiliary, the Salem Hospital Foundation, and the West Valley Hospital Foundation for students pursuing a degree in a medically related field.  Each program has its own qualifications.  Please visit www.salemhealth.org for more information.

The Planning Wizard Scholarship

Tillamook County Master Gardener Association Scholarship

Scholarship for students who have graduated from, or are current Seniors at, Tillamook County High Schools (or have a current residency in Tillamook County for a minimum of 2 years) and are planning to attend a college or university during the 2012-2013 academic year

US Bank

West Valley Hospital Foundation Scholarship

Available to students whose field of study is medically-related, permanent resident of Polk County, be a West Valley Hospital employee, or a family member of a West Valley Hospital employee. The student must have applied to a college in their field of study before applying for this scholarship.

WyzAnt Tutoring Scholarship

WyzAnt Tutoring is a nationwide tutoring service with tutors all across the country. The contest features $10,000 in total awards, and is open to college freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Students must write a short essay about an important lesson they have learned.
