Career development is a social thing - it's who you know and who knows you. You learn about careers, companies and job openings through people.
Also, employers are much more likely to offer you a job when someone refers you. Here is how to get started:
Step 1 - Create a LinkedIn profile and join the LinkedIn Western Oregon University Alumni group.
It's important to have a full profile, including a photo. A minimal profile is less professional.
Here’s LinkedIn registration for dummies – a 3 minute introduction on youtube and 6 short videos from LindedIn
Step 2 - Don't know anyone in your field or company of interest? Conduct an Informational Interview. Read this informational interviewing packet and complete the informational interview worksheet

The Informational Interview Is Actually a Thing You Should Do, Yes
Step 3 - Explore and maximize WolfLink - WOU's own database for jobs and internships. Complete a profile, upload a resume and search for a job, internship or volunteer opportunity.
