The commencement ceremony for the graduating class of 2013 will be held on Saturday, June 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place at McArthur Field on the southwest corner of the campus and will last approximately 2 to 2 1/2 hours (Graduates, please arrive at 10 a.m. and report to New P.E. for commencement instructions).
No tickets are required for the ceremony and the number of guests per graduating student is not limited.
Seating will be available in the stadium on a first-come, first-served basis. The gate will open for seating at 9 a.m. For those wishing to watch the graduation ceremony indoors, there will be limited seating in the New Physical Education gymnasium, also on a first-come, first-served basis. If special seating accommodations are required, please contact Nancy Minnick, 503-838-8481, to make arrangements.
Undergraduate students who will be within twelve (12) credits of completing degree requirements at Western Oregon University, to be completed the following Summer or Fall term only, may participate in the Commencement Ceremony. Students meeting this criteria and who are interested in participating in the ceremony should contact the evaluation department in the Registrar's Office. Verification of completion of degree requirements with in progress registration will be required after summer and/or fall registration opens.
Graduate students are eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony as long as they have no more than two courses remaining to complete degree requirements, have written approval from their graduate advisor, and have a plan on file in the graduate office to complete degree requirements the following term.
If you cannot attend the ordering event you may purchase your cap and gown at the WOU Bookstore, 503-838-8300, after the last day of the ordering event. Bachelor's degree students wear the WOU red bachelor gown and cap with a degree color tassel. Master's degree students wear the WOU black master gown and cap with black tassel and degree color hood.

The faculty at WOU recognizes scholarship by conferring honors distinction on undergraduate students who have earned a cumulative WOU grade point average of 3.50 or better. These students must have been in regular attendance at the university, completing at least 45 credit hours on campus graded on an A-F basis. Distinctions are conferred on undergraduate students who have achieved a WOU cumulative grade point average as follows:
All grade point averages used for commencement are calculated at the conclusion of winter term. Grade point averages will be recalculated when all coursework is completed and the degree is conferred.
Western Oregon University would like to recognize veterans during commencement with a patriotic 'Americana Cord' to be worn during commencement. For eligibility requirements and more information contact the Veteran Representatives at 503-838-8183.
Interstate 5 Northbound:
Take Exit 249 (Commercial Street). Follow Commercial into Salem, and as you near downtown, Commercial will curve to the right and become Liberty Street. Stay on Liberty until you reach Marion Street. Turn left, cross the Marion Street Bridge on to Highway 22, and follow the signs marked “Dallas/Ocean Beaches.” Stay on Highway 22 until you reach Highway 99W. Take exit 16 on the right side of the overpass that puts you on Highway 99W. Go south about six miles to Monmouth. Take a right onto Main Street at the stop light. Follow Main Street west to Monmouth Avenue and turn right.Alternate Northbound Route:
Take Exit 228 and follow route 34 towards Corvallis. After crossing the Willamette River into Corvallis, turn right at the second light onto scenic highway 99W. Continue north about 20 miles until you reach Monmouth; turn left at the first stop light, onto Main Street. Follow Main Street west to Monmouth Avenue and turn right.Interstate 5 Southbound:
Take Exit 260A (Salem Parkway). Follow the Parkway into Salem. The Parkway will curve to the left and become Commercial Street. Stay on Commercial until you reach Marion Street. Turn right, cross the Marion Street Bridge on to Highway 22, and follow the signs marked “Dallas/Ocean Beaches.” Stay on Highway 22 until you reach Highway 99W. Take exit 16 on the right side on the overpass that puts you on Highway 99W. Go south about six miles to Monmouth. Take a right onto Main Street at the stop light. The ceremony will be shown live on WIMPEG cable channel 17 in Monmouth-Independence.
