Butler Family Letters
Butler Davidson Cemetery
Location: 2 miles southwest of Monmouth on private land, off the Falls City Road (Highway 51).
Established in 1852 on the Elijah Davidson Donation Land Claim on a hilltop south of Monmouth, it contains graves of Elijah Davidson and Peter Butler families and their kin.

Fir Crest CemeteryLocation: Monmouth, OR, ca. 2 miles south of Monmouth. Go south on Warren Street which becomes Helmick Road. Access is possible on either Helmick Road or Fir Crest Road, a gravel road that runs off Helmick.
Established in 1848 on a hilltop covered with Douglas firs, this cemetery contains the graves of several founders of Western Oregon University including John E. Murphy and other prominent pioneers recognized as being instrumental to the establishment of the University, including A.W. Lucas (brother of Thomas H. Lucas) and J.B.V. Butler (no relation to the Peter Butler family). It also contains the graves of many faculty and staff who worked at the University, and University Presidents such as Thomas Franklin Campbell.
In 1943, Smith Cemetery and English Cemetery were relocated from their original locations at Camp Adair to property facing Fir Crest Road (across from Fir Crest Cemetery).
