HERITAGE HALL Hertitage Hall

CONSTRUCTION DATES: Heritage Hall was completed in 1989 and dedicated that September.

REMODEL: Heritage Hall has not had a major remodeled as of 2004.

CONSTRUCTION COMPANY: Heritage Hall was built by Lance Mattson Construction of Salem.

COSTS: When completed Heritage Hall had a price tag of $6.2 million.

ARCHITECTS AND BUILDING STYLE: Heritage Hall was designed to blend smoothly with the older architectural styles of the campus and features four floors and a pitched roof. The lead architects were Stan Chessir and Ron Slusarenko of the WE Group of Portland.

CURRENT USES: Heritage Hall, the largest dorm building, houses over 400 male and female students on separate floors in its 95,812 square feet.

HISTORY: Heritage Hall was built as a dormitory and was the first building on campus to have a student groundbreaking. Prizes and gift certificates were buried in the dirt prior to the student groundbreaking.

OTHER INTERESTING FACTS: Heritage Hall won an architectural award prior to completion. In 1989 the building was granted the Design Award from the Portland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Heritage Hall was slightly larger dorm rooms than the other halls on campus. The three wings of Heritage Hall are named for former faculty and administrators at the college. Dr. Henry Gunn, the 10th president of the college, Emma Henkle, graduate, professor, and originator of the special education and reading programs, and Oscar Christensen, a popular history and social science professor for 25 years at the college. There are 271,310 bricks in Heritage Hall.
