Research Review Categories

This information has been compiled to assist in understanding the level of review the research study needs in order to move forward with the IRB application approval. Please remember no data can be collected until the study receives IRB approval.

Faculty completing an IRB application designate a prediction of the type of review needed, (Exempt, Expedited, Full Board). ALL Review categories require IRB approval.

Only an IRB member can determine actual review necessary. Researchers are encouraged to contact the IRB prior to submitting an application if they are unsure of their review level.
