Student Health & Counseling Center

WOU's Student Health & Counseling Center is here for the health and wellness of WOU students.

All full-time WOU students (including international students) pay a $110 fee every term for the Health and Counseling Center.

This fee allows students to:

  • make appointments with Center's medical staff if you have an illness or injury

appointments are free, but some services may require a payment (which can usually be paid for by your insurance policy if you have one)

  • make appointments with counseling staff

counselors are there to help you with depression, stress, relationship problems, eating disorders, test anxiety, sexual assault, harassment (physical, sexual, and hate based), grief and loss, sexuality issues, psychological trauma, adjustment to school, anger management, substance abuse, self-esteem, issues with roommates, performance anxiety, phobias, and life planning.

all appointments are free and confidential (visits will not be on your record, and no one outside the office will know what you talked about or when you visited).

at your first visit, called an "intake session" (60 minutes), you will meet a counselor and get to know each other. This counselor will recommend that you meet again or with a different counselor and you can schedule future appointments. As long as your counselor is available, you can schedule as many appointments as you need for free.

International students are required to purchase insurance. (Students from Saudi Arabia may be covered by their government's policy.)

  • This insurance is meant to cover sever accidents, illnesses, and injuries that are beyond treatment at WOU's Student Health and Counseling Center. The insurance policy allows students to use nearly any medical facility for immediate or long-term care. Here are some things to know":

Your insurance company will give you an "insurance card". If you visit any medical facility, you need to show the card at the registration desk.

If you do not show your insurance card, the medical facility will send you a bill for services instead of sending the bill to your insurance company.

In some cases, medical facilities will send a bill to your insurance company and to you even if you do not have to pay anything.

If you receive a bill, do not ignore it. Talk to someone at the medical facility, insurance company, or WOU's Health and Counseling Center if you have any questions.
