International students may extend their "duration of status" by extending the program end date on their I-20 or DS-2019. Students may apply as their program end date draws near, but there are federal regulations that limit extension eligibility. For example, students are not eligible for an extension due to having failed several classes or for academic suspension.
Legitimate reasons for extending a program end date include:
- changing major or degree program
- loss of credits when transferring to WOU
- documented medical leave
- original program duration dates given were not sufficient for average student to complete the particular program
- other reasons may apply - so answer the last question on the form by providing all relevant information
