International and Transnational Education: A Strategic Perspective
Provides a strategic perspective on issues relating to international higher education at all levels and a strategic management framework for strategy formulation in international business in general, and the international higher education sector in particular.
By taking this course, you will be able to systematically apply a selection of strategic management tools and techniques in the strategy formulation process and critically reflect on the relationship between the theory of strategic planning and your own professional practice.
International Markets and Marketing of Higher Education
Universities undertake international student recruitment for a number of reasons, including income diversification and internationalization. This course develops your analytical and critical skills to enable practitioners in this area to operate most effectively.
International recruitment is primarily a special case of international marketing. Consequently the theoretical framework of this discipline is used to develop the analytical and critical skills necessary to enable you to analyze the international student market and develop appropriate strategies for international recruitment.
Managing Internationalization and Student Experience
This course will equip you with a critical understanding of the context and modes of international collaborations in Higher Education. You will also examine the implications of these collaborations in internationalizing higher education and assess the full operational process of international business relationship development, identifying the key success factors at each state of the process.
Opportunities will be provided for you to consider how appropriate strategies and techniques can be applied in developing, managing, facilitating or supporting effective international collaborations in Higher Education.
Managing International Collaborations in Higher Education
Managing International Collaborations will give you a critical understanding of the context and modes of international collaborations in Higher Education.
You will also consider the implications of these collaborations in internationalizing higher education and assess the full operational process of international business relationship development, identifying key success factors at each stage of the process.
Cross-Cultural Communication
Working in International Offices or a similar environment invariably involves interactions with people from different cultural backgrounds, whether in developing collaborations, managing a diverse workforce in the office or wider institutional context, or in supporting students. Communicating effectively across cultural boundaries is critical to the success of organizations with multicultural interactions.
This course aims to develop a systematic understanding of the impact of cultural differences on the various aspects of management of international higher education. It will also give you the skills to enhance your own professional effectiveness in multicultural settings and enhance your appreciation of cultural diversity.
Research Methods
Research methods will provide you with the knowledge and skills to develop a research proposal and undertake a Masters level research-based dissertation. You will engage with essential considerations in research design, including philosophical basis, developing research questions, literature review, a range of research methods for data collection and analysis, and project planning.
Work-based Projects
Work-based projects provide you with the opportunity to synthesize what you have learned in the program and apply all the theory, knowledge and skills into purposeful action with a real life project in an employing organization.
Final Dissertation
Similar to a capstone thesis, the dissertation allows you to select a topic of your own interest and proceed to deepen and develop your knowledge in that area. The dissertation is an opportunity to develop your skills as an autonomous learner and allows you to extend the knowledge gained in the rest of the MA program to your own career. Each student will be assigned a dissertation advisor who will work with students to ensure individual success on this project.
