Credit Overlay for Students

Western offers credit overlay for education programs from a variety of sources. We recognize excellent educational programs offering WOU approved online and onsite courses. If you need classes to renew your license, for your own professional development, or to take as an elective, the credit overlay option is an excellent opportunity.

You can receive college credit (only $50 per credit) for courses or training sessions offered through our credit overlay program.

Your school district, agency, or business - Local school districts and professional organizations offer many classes specific to their organization and often arrange to offer university credit for these classes.

Credit Overlay, what kind of credit is this?

This is University-approved credit, at either the undergraduate (course numbers 100-499) or graduate (600-699) level. Depending on your advisor and your program of study, these credits can apply as electives or substitute for required courses. Please contact your college advisor prior to registering for the class to determine how these credits may apply to your course of study.

Quarter or Semester credits? WOU only offers credits based on the quarter system. The conversion is 3 quarter hour credits = 2 semester hour credits. To convert quarter hours to semester hours, divide the quarter hours by 1.5.

To convert from quarter system credits to the European ECTS: the number of quarter credits divided by 1.5 multiplied by 2 = ECTS
