Criminal Justice Online Degree - To Apply

Undergraduate Admission Requirements

All students must complete the WOU Admissions Application form prior to taking any WOU online courses. Students must also complete the Criminal Justice Program Application, which is due before a student begins their third term of courses. Applications are accepted year-round.

Students applying to the program must satisfy the following:

Hold an A.A. or A.S. degree from an accredited institution - OR-
Have completed 90 quarter credit hours (60 semester hours)
Have completed WR 135 College Writing (or equivalent) and received a "B" or above
Have a 2.67 GPA on previous coursework

If you do not meet all of these requirements, you may petition for a waiver. The petition must be made in writing and explain why you believe you should not be held to the above standards.

All students must submit an Undergraduate Admissions Applications

To be admitted into the Criminal Justice Distance Education Program, please also complete and submit the Criminal Justice Program Application and the following items to the address below.

Transcripts from all colleges/universities you have ever attended (unofficial are ok)
A biographical letter (no longer than 2 pages in length)
Copy of current driver’s license or photo ID

Graduate Admission Requirements

Students applying to the online Master of Arts in Criminal Justice program must satisfy the following:

If the applicant's GPA for the last 90 quarter hours (60 semester hours) is less than 3.0, passing test scores from the Miller Analogies test (MAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE) are required. Minimum required scores are: 395 for the MAT: average of 450 on the Verbal and Quantitative sections and 3.5 on the Analytical Writing section of the GRE.
Hold an undergratduate degree, preferably with a concentration of study in the social or behavioral sciences. If this requirement is not met, candidate must provide evidence that he/she:
1. Is currently a supervisor in a criminal justice agency, or
2. Has successfully completed two years of full-time employment in a criminal justice agency and submit a letter of recommendation from his/her unit supervisor indicating that the candidate has the potential for advancement to a supervisory or administrative position.
3. Candidates who do not hold an undergraduate degree in a related field may be expected to complete additional hours in addition to the 45 required hours.

Applicants for the Master of Arts in Criminal Justice must submit two sets of application materials, as outlined below. Applications are accepted year-round, and students can begin the program during any academic term.

Transferring Credits to WOU

If you have previously taken Criminal Justice courses at other colleges, some of those credits may be transferred toward your WOU degree. Please see the WOU Transfer Articulation for more information.

WOU advisors would be happy to do a transcript evaluation to help you determine what classes will transfer to WOU. Please send a copy of your transcripts by fax, email, or mail to the Division of Extended Programs.
