First-Year Experience (ICS 101) is designed to help students transition from high school to Western Oregon University. This is a two-credit course which will give you the chance to learn about the campus and your role and responsibilities as a student. At the end of the ten-week course, you will understand more about how to navigate college life. Each class is themed and will feature learning inside and outside of the classroom, as well as class discussions and visiting speakers.
Class objectives:
- To explore the purpose, value and expectations of higher education.
- To learn about campus resources and involvement opportunities.
- To strengthen your connection to WOU, faculty, staff, and fellow students.
- To develop strong study and critical thinking skills to help you succeed in the college classroom.
- To help you create long and short term goals for your college career and life after college.
- To learn about the different challenges you'll face inside and outside of the classroom and how to go about tackling those challenges.
