Prospective Advising

We at the Academic Advising and Learning Center are excited to hear about your interest in Western Oregon University. All prospective students are strongly encouraged to speak with the Office of Admissions in regards to the application process.  If you have recently been accepted to WOU, congratulations! We are sure you have many questions about the programs and majors that WOU offers. We encourage you to use our website to learn more about the academic opportunities and resources available at WOU. If you have any questions about our academic programs or how your credits may transfer (if you have transferable credits) please contact us.

Academic advising is one of the essential steps as you begin at WOU. The Academic Advising and Learning Center advises all students who are exploratory, first-year psychology, first-year criminal justice, and first year students seeking the prerequisites for nursing schools. Our office also advises in regards to general education requirements such as the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum (LACCs) and Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (BA/BS) requirements. If you know your intended major, we recommend you speak with a faculty advisor in the department you wish to major in.

Your advisor will help you select classes, make academic choices, explore opportunities, and create an academic plan suited to your interests, abilities, and goals.

You can view the requirements of any program online via our Course Catalog, however the advising department wants to stress that these requirements are set for current students and can change at any time prior to you officially entering WOU.

If you have any questions, contact our office and we will make sure you are directed to the appropriate office based on your questions.
