Jensen Arctic Museum

About usThe Jensen Arctic Museum opened on the Western Oregon University campus in June of 1985. It contains the rare Alaskan artifacts of its late curator, Dr. Paul Jensen, retired professor in education. The museum also features items that were donated to supplement Exhibit display at the museum
and enhance that collection. The museum is the only museum on the West Coast devoted solely to collecting, preserving and teaching Arctic culture and ecology.

The Friends of the Jensen Arctic Museum support the museum through volunteerism, hosting an annual birthday open-house, organizing the Salmon Bake and Auction, hosting symposiums on Arctic ecology, and providing educational experiences and activities.

The museum’s permanent and temporary exhibits allow visitors to learn more about the unique world of the Arctic in Europe, Canada, Exhibit display at the museum
and Alaska. The diverse ways that animals and people have adapted to the harsh Arctic environment intrigues visitors of all ages. Over 4 thousand adults and children visited the museum in 2006- 07. There are 5 thousand artifacts that are available to the public for research and study, with a rotating display of these objects.

Mission-

The mission of the Jensen Arctic Museum is to inform the people of the Pacific Northwest about the arctic and all of the things associated with it.
