The National Mathematics Honor Society

In the summer of 2004, the Mathematics Department at WOU was installed as the Oregon Delta chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon. We are proud and honored to be part of this great tradition.

Western Oregon University Pi Mu Epsilon Induction Ceremonies
2013 The induction ceremony for 2013 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 30. Four WOU professors welcomed new Pi Mu Epsilon members with a Mathematical Show and Tell featuring Breeann Flesch's "Euler’s Formula", Stanley Leung's "Geostatistics", Scott Beaver's "Russell’s Paradox", and Michael Ward's "Change Ringing".
2012 The induction ceremony for 2012 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 31. The guess speaker was Ken Ross, Professor Emeritus, University of Oregon. His talk was entitled "Patterns of First Digits."
2011 The induction ceremony for 2011 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 26. The guess speaker was Klay Kruczek, Western Oregon University (now Southern Connecticut State University). His talk was entitled “Paul Erdős: The Man Who Loved Only Numbers.”
2010 The induction ceremony for 2010 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 27. The guess speaker was John Lee, Oregon State University. His talk was entitled "Using What You Know to Get What You Want."
2009 The induction ceremony for 2009 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 28. The guess speaker was Jamie Pommersheim, Reed College. His talk was entitled "Euler-Maclaurin Summation for Polytopes."
2008 The induction ceremony for 2008 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 29. The guest speaker was Maria Fung, Western Oregon University (now Worcester State University). Her talk was entitled "Hamilton's Quaternions: A Brief Introduction."
2007 The induction ceremony for 2007 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 31. The guess speaker was Eugene Luks, University of Oregon. His talk was entitled "The 15 Puzzle, 15000-Page Proofs, and Parallel Computation".
2006 The induction ceremony for 2006 was held on Academic Excellence Day on May 31. The guess speaker was Sam Hall, Willamette University. His talk was entitled "Eduoard Lucas: Sequences for Fun, Fame and Secrecy".
2005 The induction ceremony for 2005 was held on May 2. The guest speaker was Tevian Dray, Oregon State University. His talk was entitled "The Geometry of Special Relativity".
2004 The first WOU PME induction ceremony was held on July 9. The guest speaker was Michelle Schultz, University of Nevada - Las Vegas. serving as a councillor for the national Pi Mu Epsilon organization.
