Student News

Conferences and Papers 2012-2013

Molly Stubblefield '13, presented a poster at the 2013 Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego

Casey Hansen '13, Anna Kralovec '13, Rosanna Mersereau '13, and Madelyn Twain '13 presented papers at the 2013 Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics

Ariel Setniker '13, co-authored a paper "The Complement of Fermat Curves in the Plane" that has been accepted for publication in the journal Involve. This paper involves an original result from research she did over the summer at University of Wisconsin-Stout's REU. You can see proof at the following website:
http://msp.berkeley.edu/ scripts/coming.php?jpath= involve. Ariel also presented on this subject at MathFest held in Madison, WI, 2012 and the Joint Mathematical Meetings held in San Diego, CA, January 2013.

Employment News

Anne Sanders BS `10 MAT '12 teaches algebra and geometry to a mix of freshmen through seniors at North Marion High School in Aurora, Oregon. She offers a daily after school "Math Party" to help students with homework or just to give them a safe, quiet place to work. She also started a weekly "4.0 Club" with two other teachers for students who are striving for better grades and need an adult to help them keep track of things as well as planning for life after high school.

Emily Trigg BS '10 MAT '11 is teaching Algebra and Advanced Topics at North Salem High School.

Graduate School News
David Daniels '10 passed PhD qualifying exams in probability and topology at Purdue University, adding to the algebra and analysis exams he passed earlier. That completes the required qualifying exams. He is studying analytic combinatorics as a possible dissertation area.
Jesse Pence '11 began studies for a Master of Education in Secondary Education at the University of Nevada, Reno in August 2012.
Rob Keene '06 is studying Geomatics at Oregon Institute of Technology.  According to Rob, Geomatics is "all about the application of Mathematics to Mapping and Navigation."   He adds,  "I'm really excited about my Geodesy class!  The entire class is basically the application of my Senior Project from WOU."

Study Abroad

Molly Stubblefield '13, went fall term 2012 to a Budapest Semester in Mathematics where she is took: Analysis, Intro to Topology, Extremal Combinatorics, Hungarian Art and Culture, a GRE Prep Course (for the subject test) and Hungarian + (basic phrases).
