Masters in Management & Information Systems
The Master of Science in Management and Information Systems (MIS) is a joint program offered by the business division and the computer science division. Master of Arts in History
The Master of Arts in History at WOU is designed for teachers seeking to strengthen their history content, for students planning their professional careers with a background in history, for individuals seeking career advancement or personal enrichment, and for students preparing for doctoral programs. Details about the program.
Students can enter the MA in History program during any academic term. For more information, email Dr. Max Geier, head of the Department of History or call at 503-838-8369.
The Masters degree in Criminal Justice (completely on-line) and the Master of Music in Contemporary Music are also available.

OHSU - BS in Nursing program at WOUOregon Health & Science University's School of Nursing and Western have partnered on a BS degree with a major in nursing at WOU. For details.
OHSU faculty teach the clinical coursework and WOU faculty teach the pre-nursing coursework, general education courses, and Jr/Sr-level elective coursework. The BS degree is awarded by OHSU.
Admission into the WOU pre-nursing program is handled through the undergraduate admissions office. The pre-nursing program is offered by the Natural Science and Mathematics Division.
Admission to baccalaureate nursing programs is very competitive; students work with WOU pre-nursing advisors to personalize their pre-nursing curriculum to best prepare for admission to OHSU or other baccalaureate nursing programs across the nation.
About LASThe College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is home to over 200 faculty and staff housed in 7 divisions. The college offers 34 majors, over 50 minors, and select graduate programs. Approximately three-fourths of the university’s graduates complete a major within the college.
The mission of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is to provide the central learning experience for all undergraduate students at Western Oregon University. The criminal justice department hosted the first annual The State of Crime Analysis in Oregon and Southwest Washington symposium which brought approximately 60 crime analysts, criminal intelligence analysts and academics together to discuss cooperation across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Mr. Christopher Bruce, President of the International Association of Crime Analysts and adjunct instructor at WOU, was the keynote speaker. The attendees from multiple law enforcement agencies also had the opportunity to become familiar with WOU’s curricular offerings in crime analysis: students may pursue a crime analysis concentration in their CJ studies, leading to a certificate in crime analysis; The crime analysis certificate is also available to post baccalaureate enrollment. Dr. Terry Gingerich, professor of criminal justice, was conference organizer. Drs. Jie Liu, Yahwei Wu, and John Marsaglia
Assistant professor Yanwei Wu and her colleagues, professors Jie Liu and John Marsaglia in the computer science division, have received notice from NSF that they were selected as one of 13 universities in the United States to redesign undergraduate computer science courses in spring 2012 to include enhanced treatment of parallel and distributed computing (PDC). The award was made through a competitive process overseen by the NSF Technological Committee on Parallel Processing Curriculum. Chemistry professor involved in multi-university project promoting women in science

Dr. Patricia Flatt, assistant professor of chemistry, recently participated in the planning meeting for establishing the NSF-funded project “Advancing the Careers of Women in STEM at Predominantly Undergraduate Institutions through Professional Networks” (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Ultimately, the project will involve women faculty from undergraduate institutions across the nation, but is starting with 12 schools: Gonzaga University, John Carroll University, Loyola University Maryland, University of Scranton, University of Detroit Mercy, Butler University, Hope College, Marysville University St. Louis, Southern Oregon University, University of St. Thomas, Willamette University and Western Oregon University. Dr. Flatt will be involving other women STEM faculty at WOU in the professional networks.
