Dr. Gianna Martella (Ph.D., University of Texas at Austin) specializes in contemporary Latin American Literature. Her main interest is Popular Culture, and while she focuses mainly in the use of detective fiction and fantasy as a vehicle to expose conflicts in society while avoiding censorship under repressive governments, she has also written about TV shows like Grimm and Joss Whedon’s Firefly. She is a professional translator and a certified court interpreter and has a graduate degree in Library Science. In her “other life” she works dog and cat rescue.
