The mission of the philosophy club is to stimulate intellectual inquiry among the Western Oregon University student body through a weekly discussion group, sponsorship of guest speakers and panel discussions. The faculty advisor is Dr. Susan Daniel ( daniels@wou.edu).
Example Symposium topics from previous years have included: Music and Philosophy ('92); World Views ('93); New Directions in American Philosophy ('94); Animal Rights ('95); Violence and the Media ('96).
OBJECTIVES:1. To provide an ongoing community of inquiry discussing issues chosen by participating students. 2. To foster extracurricular and public discussion of matters of widespread intellectual concern. 3. To bring interesting thoughtful speakers to campus. 4. To orchestrate a major public symposium each year.
The Philosophy Club Meets Thursdays From 3:30 to 4:20 in HSS 112.
