R.S. Baker Memorial Scholarship

In memory of long-time English/Humanities faculty member R.S. Baker, Dr. Dennis Eddings, emeritus Professor of English at Western Oregon University, has contributed funds for a scholarship. For the 2011-12 school year, one $1000 scholarship was available. The funds are distributed in three payments for Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, contingent on full-time enrollment status as a major in any Humanities field at WOU. The duration of the scholarship is normally one academic year. Provided that a recipient has made acceptable progress toward his or her degree, a scholarship may be awarded for a total of four (4) successive years; re-application is necessary. Failure of the student to remain in good academic standing or to make satisfactory progress toward a degree may result in withdrawal of the scholarship.

To be eligible for this award, students must:

  • Be a prospective or current full-time student at Western Oregon University
  • Be age 24 or older
  • Have an earned grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Have a declared major in the Humanities [Communication Studies, English—any track, German Studies, Humanities, Philosophy, Spanish]
  • Have a current, valid FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and WOU General Scholarship application on file with the WOU Financial Aid office
  • Submit a completed application to Dr. Curtis Yehnert (HSS 315; Humanities Division, Western Oregon University, 345 N. Monmouth Ave., Monmouth, OR 97361) by 5 pm on Friday, April 15th, 2012.
