General Information
The Western Oregon University Music Department offers degrees at the graduate and undergraduate levels that provide a foundation in theory, aural skills, solo and ensemble performance, improvisation, music history, and ethnomusicology. Students broaden their musical knowledge by pursuing areas of emphasis, including applied performance lessons, conducting, composition, arranging, electronic music, jazz studies, American vernacular studies, and recording technologies. Those graduating with these degrees find employment in the music industry, music journalism, performance, studio music instruction, church music, the entertainment industry, community music. These degree offerings also provide an excellent foundation for further scholarly study in graduate school and 5th year teacher certification programs in music education.
