Announcements and News Releases

Gerontology Student Association (WOUGSA)

The next meeting of WOUGSA will take place...dates will be posted soon.  We hope to see you there!

The Psychology Division has a new name!

Beginning Fall term 2013, the Psychology Division will be known as the Behavioral Sciences Division.

It is important to note that the above changes won’t change your curriculum, the name of your majors, nor the degree you are working toward. We still offer bachelors degrees in “Psychology” and “Gerontology.”

We now have two departments housed in the Behavioral Sciences Division. First, we have the Psychological Sciences Department (Dr. Strapp will be Department Head). The addition of the term “Sciences” highlights the fact that our discipline is very scientific in nature. This type of department name change has become increasingly common around the U.S. and Europe. The other department we have created is the Gerontology Department (Dr. Toray will be Department Head).

We are excited to have grown such a large and vibrant gerontology program in only a few years, which is already helping prepare many students for rewarding careers working with older adults. Please let Dr. Manoogian, Dr. Toray, or Dr. Winningham know if you want more information about the Gerontology Program.

New Major!

The Psychology Division introduces a new major in Gerontology. This major consists of 58 credit hours of coursework. For more information about this major, read the Gerontology Brochure, or please contact Dr. Rob Winningham. He may be reached via email winninr@wou.edu or 503-838-8297.

WOUPSA Meetings-every Wednesday at 12noon in the Werner University Center

The Western Oregon University Psychology Student Association is a student club which was formed by combining Psi Chi Chapter Honor Society and the local Psychology Club. By doing this we have hoped to form a more cohesive group of individual psychology students helping each other to progress through the curriculum to that final goal of graduation and if possible, with honors.

There are no requirements to becoming a member of this club. If you wish to attend the meetings and/or be added to the mailing list, please feel free to let Linda Kunze in the Behavioral Sciences Office know that you would like to be added to the list.( kunzel@wou.edu).  The club will meet during Fall term on the following Wednesdays at Noon in the Ochoco Room.

More dates will be posted here for future terms.

To be a member of Psi Chi, the National Honorary Society in Psychology, requirements include: 1) Top third GPA of your class, 2) Have taken at least 15 credit hours of Psychology, 3) Received a B average GPA in those Psychology courses, 4) Have maintained high standards.
