SPELL PROJECT:  Sustainable Practices for English Language Learners

Preparing teachers to ensure the success of English
Language Learners

Project SPELL: Sustainable Practices for English Language Leaners, is a Federal grant awarded to Western Oregon University with the focus on ESOL endorsement, coaching, and professional learning communities. Western Oregon University's ESOL/Bilingual Education program prepares teachers to ensure that English Language Learners (ELLs) succeed in all aspects of their schooling.

For teacher's working in our participating school districts, class tuition and fees are paid for by the SPELL grant. The money out-of-pocket for students will include the National Evaluation Series (NES) testing fee and the fee to TSPC to add the endorsement to their license. For some Districts textbooks are provided and others the students purchase them. To inquire about admission to the program, please contact Karla Hale at 838-8521 or halek@wou.edu.
