Female student The Department of Literacy prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be effective literacy teachers in schools across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and beyond. Our students learn to construct and convey understandings about language and literacy development, literacy instruction and assessment as they become lifelong active agents in their own learning. They learn to understand and respect cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity, and recognize the positive contributions of diversity.
Information, procedures, and requirements are subject to change according to revisions of current regulations by the Curriculum and Academic Policies Council of West Chester University and/or the Literacy Department. The ultimate responsibility for knowing and following prescribed requirements rests with the individual student. Students should check periodically with their advisors to see that their program is in order.
