WESTERN TO OFFER
YOUTH SWIM PROGRAM

Western Carolina University will offer a Youth Swim Review for beginners from 6 to 6:45 p.m., and for advanced beginners, from 7 to 7:45 p.m., Oct.15-19, in the Breese Gym on the WCU campus.

The Youth Swim Review for beginners includes water exploration and primary skills. Activities includes bobbing, holding breath underwater, rhythmic breathing, floating, prone glide, back glide, underwater glide, leg kicks and arm mechanics.

Additional skills for beginners include proper head position for rhythmic breathing, improving leg kicks and arm mechanics, improving swim technique, sit-down dive, learning survival floating and acclimation to deep water and testing drills.

Advanced beginners will review stroke readiness, including bobbing in deep water, jumping off a diving board, improvement in rhythmic breathing to side, survival floating for two minutes, underwater swimming, front and back crawl stroke improvement and other skills.

Instructor for the course is Mike Creason, a retired WCU professor with 30 years of experience as an American Red Cross certified instructor.
